Today is national Chihuahua Day!
What is a Chihuahua and where did they come from?
Chihuahuas are believed to be descendants of an ancient breed called the techichi, which were around from as early as the early 9th century in Mexico. There is not much detail to how they eventually made there way in to Europe but there are some notes in Christopher colobus journals where he mentions the dogs. Some believe it was he who brought them over.
Despite their tiny size Chihuahuas actually have the biggest brain in the dog world. They are fast learners and easy to train, making them on of the top breeds to have as a pet.
Story and Daily Lives Of Two Chihuahua’s Spike & Tilly
Spike was rescued June 2016 by his hoomans. He was an unwanted pet at the time with no where to call home. His owners fell in love with him instantly and decided to take him home with them.
He was a timid little guy to start off with, but soon made himself at home and began trusting his new owners as they gave him lots of yummy food, love and toys to play with. One day he got given this monkey plush which became his favourite toy and he goes everywhere with it.
Spike is settled in to his new home and loves life.
However due to his past, when he goes for walks if it gets busy such as cars or a lot of people he still gets a bit nervous so his owners walk him quieter routes so he can fully enjoy his daily walks. Spike is very loving and loyal and hates it if he isn’t the one getting all the attention.
Tilly was rescued in September 2019. She was rescued from a breeder as the breeder could not sell her, due to her lower jaw being slightly deformed. As you can see in the picture above and ones below she is honestly the sweetest little girl ever, She was very timid around people when her owners took her in but she has come a long way since then and has totally come out her shell.
She loves cosying up and relaxing and is very good natured. She’s very gentle and kind to her owners and anyone who visits. She loves her walks and enjoys hanging out with her other doggy friends.

Here are some photos of tilly and spike together:
As you can see they love being with each other! Their owner informs me that they from time to time bicker, but seriously what couple doesn’t! As they are both rescue dogs is seems they had that in common and over time they have became super best friends.
I hope you have enjoyed learning about Chihuahua’s and they wonderful story of Spike and Tilly on National Chihuahua Day.
